Electron beam curing technology has been widely utilized since the early 1960s for the production of electrical wire and cable. One of the major advantages of this technology is easier and preferable, because no curative and heating cycles are necessary for the curing process. The present work focusses on the influence of radiation dosage and type and amount of coagents on the properties of elastomer. This was conducted by gel content, hot set test, mechanical test and thermal aging test. It was found that cross-linking density, mechanical and thermal properties increase with increased radiation dose and amount of coagents. Based on our findings we are able to select the radiation dosage as well as the type and amount of coagents to optimize the network density of electron beam cured compound based on elastomer. |
