In this work, marine macroalgae-based carbon materials are successfully produced by direct carbonization of the Undaria pinnatifida (UP). To prepare the UP-based carbon samples, two different types of treatment were mainly applied: 1) deionized water washing and 2) HCl aqueous solution washing. The prepared materials were characterized by elemental and thermo-gravimetric analysis, nitrogen adsorption, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. A conventional three-electrode cell system was also used to measure the electrochemical performance of the UP-based electrodes. The obtained UP-based carbon materials exhibit high heteroatom contents and low porosity, which could influence on the electrochemical performance. In addition, these carbon electrodes represent good electrochemical performances in H2SO4 aqueous electrolyte. |
