This study was to compare and analyze the removal efficiency of Cu(II) by phosphorylating cornstalk(CS) and natural CS in aqueous solution. After phosphorylation of cornstalk (PCS), the pHpzc was lowered to 3.82, confirming that acidic functional groups were attached onto surface of CS. The adsorption kinetics and isothermal adsorption experiments of Cu(II) onto PCS were suitable for pseudo-2nd-order and Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity was 182.76 mg/g. The adsorption process using PCS was close to physical adsorption, and the adsorption efficiency increased as the temperature increased. According to FT-IR analysis, phosphorylation improved the number of carboxyl groups on CS. In addition, PCS increased porosity and surface area compared with CS. Moreover, the phosphoric acid group expanded the pore shape of the adsorbent to increase the exposure of anions to the surface. As a result, the adsorption efficiency of Cu(II), a cationic ion, to PCS was improved. |
