Lignocellulose-derived chemicals can be converted to the valuable products including fine chemicals and petroleum-like fuels, which can be achieved the chemical processes similar to the oil refinery. While the oil refinery converts hydrocarbons containing the low oxygen contents to fuels, the biomass-derived reactants contain the high oxygen contents, which caused the troubles including high acidity, high water content, difficult storage, and must be converted to the valuable compounds using the catalytic chemical processes. In this study, the biomass-derived oxygenates are converted to valuable hydrocarbons using catalysts, and the processes including deoxygenation, condensation, alkylation, isomerization are discussed for the development of chemical processes to obtain highly valuable chemicals and fuels. |
