β-glucans are a diverse range of carbohydrate polymers of differing lengths and structures that make up the cell walls of yeast, fungi, algae and some plants. They are also used as supplements in human nutrition and adjuvants in vaccine design because of their pathogen-associated molecular pattern. Previous studies of β-glucans showed this patterns are recognized by dectin-1’s receptor, a highly expressed lectin on the surface of phagocytic macrophages. So β-glucans can be efficiently taken up by macrophages in vitro. Therefore, increasing the activity of macrophages would help in increasing the effectiveness of drug transfer and disease treatment. With these advantages of β-glucan we designed here self assembled β-glucan nano particles(SGP) as a novel drug delivery carrier and porous hollow β-glucan micro particles(YGP) with doxorubicin(DOX), anti-cancer drug. We confirmed the successful loading of the drugs in SPG and YGP through FT-IR spectrometer. The DOX loading efficiency of SGP and YGP were analyzed using absorbance analysis and fluorescence analysis. These results suggest that our SGP may be able to be utilized as a promising platform for drug delivery systems. |
