An Intercross-linked Copolymer Network Based on Epoxy Resin and Polyurethane |

An intercross-linked copolymer network based on epoxy resin and polyurethane was prepared by using a co-curing agent for two different thermosetting polymers. The thermal and mechanical properties of the prepared intercross-linked EP/PU copolymer network have been investigated as a function of the composition of the resin blend (in terms of PU content). DMA measurements as well as the SEM observation revealed that the cured system with two different thermosetting polymers has an intercross-linked copolymer network as we expected initially. The glass transition temperature (Tg) was decreased with increasing the content of PU in the range of this study (up to 50 wt%). Tesile fracture energy representing the fracture toughness of the material and the tensile elongation to break showing the ductility of the material were remarkably increased up to four and six times respectively above 20 wt% of PU content, compared to that of pure epoxy resin system. |
