Hydrogels for wound dressing were made from a mixture of poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and glycerin by gamma-ray irradiation. The physical properties such as gelation, water absorptivity and gel strength were examined to evaluate the applicability of these for wound dressing. Gamma irradiation doses of 25, 35 and 50 kGy were exposed to a mixture of PVP/glycerin to evaluate the effect of irradiation dose. The concentration of PVP/glycerin solution was in the range of 10~50 wt%, the PVP and glycerin ratio was in the range of 1:2~3:1. Gel content increased as concentration of a solid in a solution increased, and as irradiation dose increased. Swelling degree increased as concentration of a solid in a solution increased, and as irradiation dose decreased. Gel strength increased as concentration of a solid in a solution increased, and as irradiation dose increased. |
