Block copolymers comprise two or more homopolymer subunits linked by covalent bonds. The merge of distinct properties from each building block makes it possible to develop improved or unexpected materials. Block copolymers are especially meaningful when needing to mix physically immiscible polymers. Polycarbonate, a leading engineering plastic, has formed interesting block copolymers with polyolefin, polyurethane, polyether and so on. Among them, polycarbonate-polysiloxane block copolymer (Si-PC) is the most widely used. The combination of ‘hard segment’ (polycarbonate) and ‘soft segment’ (polysiloxane) results in excellent low temperature impact strength, chemical resistance, and good releasability. Herein, we present recent trend and our research progress on Si-PC development and application. |
