In this study, we provide a strategy to enhance a stability of IPMCs in air working condition. Using an alkali metal ion as a counter ion and H2O as a medium, the conventional IPMCs have been suffered from unstable operation in dry atmosphere. To increase the stability, we employed various ammonium and organic cations to IPMCs via a cation substitution. As a result, the newly developed organic cations obtain a sustainable mobility, providing lots of mobile medium for a hydration. Especially, ionic liquids were used as media to handle a critical limitation in IPMCs such as a high volatility and a low decomposition voltage of H2O medium. Through the introductions of organic cation and ionic liquids, we have achieved more stable performance under the anhydrous condition. |
