Composite materials composed of organic polymers and inorganic oxide particles have been utilized in numerous applications. Most of composite membranes containing silica particles have been fabricated through sol-gel process with alkoxide precursors. In spite of homogeneous distribution of silica particles, the composite membranes can be easily affected by various factors(temperature, reaction catalyst and so on). For this, the direct mixing of silica nanoparticles may be an effective method for incorporation of silica into the high-performance proton exchange membrane with the assumption that the silica nanoparticles can be homogeneously dispersed. In this present study, urethane acrylate non-ionomer(UAN) was used as a dispersant for uniform distribution of nano-sized silica and as a compatibilizer for nanophase separation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains in the nanocomposite membranes with the interpenetrating polymer network. |
