In this work, the novel nanocomposites were prepared by swelling an organoclay in vinyl ester (VE) with subsequent polymerization. The contents of oganoclay were varied with 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 wt%, and the dicumyl peroxide was used as a free-radical initiator. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and a universal testing machine (UTM) measurement were performed to examine the thermal and mechanical interfacial properties of the nanocomposites. As a result, X-ray diffraction indicated the intercalation of the VE chains was happened inside the gallery of clay. The nanocomposites showed higher thermal stability than that of pristine VE. And, the mechanical interfacial properties of the nanocomposites were higher than those of pristine VE. This could be attributed to the intercalation of the VE chains inside the organoclay gallery played a major role in enhancing of interactions between the silicate layer and the VE chain. |
