In this study, the moisture sorption properties of zeolites, silica gels, hydrophilic polymers and their composites were investigated. The choice of an appropriate desiccant material depends essentially on moisture adsorption capacity, sorption kinetics and amount of thermal energy required for regeneration. The sorption kinetics of nanoporous materials and polymers are examined using Fick’s second law and the diffusion coefficients were obtained from the initial slope of a sorption graph at various humidity and temperatures. The diffusion coefficient increased with increasing relative humidity and with increasing test temperature. The sorption properties are dependent on the pore size and the pore structure of molecular sieves and the composites. Also, the effects of ion exchange of zeolites and polymers on sorption properties are also investigated. |
