제목 | Interferometric Methods for Measurements of Plastic Optical Fiber Refractive Index Profiles |
초록 | Due to the rapid increase of need for telecommunications such as internet, video conference, and video-on-demand, advanced optical communication infrastructures that deliver fiber optic cables directly up to offices and homes have been intensively developed. Since conventional optical glass fibers are brittle and hard to install and/or make a connection, it would be difficult to deliver glass fibers to offices and homes directly. Recently, therefore, there have been many researches in the development of graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF). GI-POF has larger core diameter, which could make the junction and connection of the fibers much easier. The refractive index profile of GI-POF is a dominant factor to determine optical transmission capability, such as optical bandwidth.1 Several methods were proposed for measuring the index profiles of GI-POF: longitudinal interferometry, transverse interferometry, reflected or transmitted near-field intensity profiles, deflectometry, interference microscopy and holographic shearing interferometry.2,3 In this presentation, several interferometric methods and their applications to measure the index profile of GI-POF will be introduced.4 References 1.
