A novel amphiphilic tetrathiafulvalene compound (abbreviated as amph-10TTF14) was newly synthesized via coupling reactions. The amph-10TTF14 compound consisted of a rigid TTF group with flexible hydrophilic and hydrophobic tails. Chemical structure of amph-10TTF14 was first confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR, and its phase behaviors were monitored by differential scanning calorimetry combined with the results of cross-polarized optical microscopy and one-dimensional wide-angle X-ray diffraction. The amph-10TTF14 compound formed a crystalline ordered phase at lower temperature. Morphological observations by transmission electron microscopy clearly indicated that the amph-10TTF14 compound crystallized to flat, scroll and helical threads, which morphologies should be closely related with amph-10TTF14 molecular packing sequences. Utilizing selected area electron microscopy and 2D WAXD, crystalline structure and molecular packing of amph-10TTF14 compound were further investigated |
