In this study, we developed a photo crystal display using anionically charged acrylic polymer synthesized by emulsion polymerization. With DC voltage, the colloidal lattice spacing was changed and diffracted light wavelength was also changed by Bragg's law. So, we could observe the color changes and it could be utilized as a full color display device. To solve the electrochemical problems in water system, the colloidal polymer dispersed in a low dielectric non-aqueous medium (oil) were developed. To improve the surface charge of the colloids in oil, we used a high HLB surfactant and successfully achieved well dispersed charged colloidal photonic crystals in oil. |
