Giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) are fascinating vesicular models for studying the membrane dynamics and structural features of a variety of cellular processes. In this study, the electro-formation technique was employed to produce the hybrid GUVs by molecular co-assembly of DPPC (1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) with three amphiphilic copolymers, including poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(ɛ-caprolactone), poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(ɛ-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene oxide), and poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polydimethylsiloxane-b-poly(ethylene oxide). We attempted to study how co-assembly of DPPC with block copolymers affects mechanical properties of GUVs. Finally, we experimentally demonstrated that block copolymers played an essential role in surprisingly enhancing the bulk modulus and stability of GUVs. |
