A surface-reactive amphiphilic diblock copolymer, poly[styrene-b-(3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate](PS-b-PTMSPMA), was synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) with CuBr/N,N,N’,N”,N”-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine(PMDETA) catalyst system. The chemical structure and composition of the PS-b-PTMSPMA diblock copolymer were analyzed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The thermal properties were studied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The PTMSPMA block in the diblock copolymer was bonded to the silica substrate surface by the immersion or dip-coating method followed by annealing and rinsing. The self-assembly behavior in the resulting monolayer-thick film was studied using the atomic force microscope(AFM). |
