Cellulose nanofibril (CNF) is one of the most promising biodegradable fibrous materials having many potential applications that draw attentions recently. Its excellent physical properties make it useful replacing synthetic fibers in polymer composites and inertness or biocompatibility might create new applications. Here few examples of CNF applications in polymer composites and energy storage materials that is currently studied will be presented. SiO2, ZnO, TiO2, and Ca3O4 nanoparticles were incorporated with CNF to form a hybrid via a sol-gel reaction. CNF-polymer nanocomposites were prepared using a melt-mixer and their mechanical properties were studied. UV blocking property and reduction in photocatalytic property of the hybrids were studied. In addition, its usefulness in flexible supercapacitors will also be presented. |
