Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used in automotive materials, cases, and packaging films, has excellent abrasion resistance and chemical resistance, but lacks some strength. In this study expands its applicability by increasing the strength of PET composites. Cellulose fibril (CF) bio-degradable fibrous nanomaterial extracted from the wood, has attracted attentions for application as a reinforcement filler for polymer composites because of its physical properties comparable to glass or carbon fiber. However, its hydrophilicity and thermal properties make it difficult for dispersing in PET in the hot melt mixing process. Therefore, CF surface was chemically modified with silica sphere to increase compatibility with the PET matrix. The surface-modified CF was imaged using SEM, TEM. Mechanical and rheological properties of the PET composites was analyzed in terms of silica content, CF content, and using UTM and rheometer according to ASTM standards. |
