Polyurethane (PU) is one of versatile polymers for wide applications including coatings, adhesives, sealants, medical devices, and various foams. The self-healing of PU is attracting attentions of researchers recently. One of various self-healing of PU is based on the reversible urethane bonds at specific range of temperatures. Isosorbide (ISB) is a bicyclic diol derived from glucose. Incorporation of ISB in PU may enable the self-healing of PU. In this study, we have investigated the reversibility of PU elastomers prepared from a prepolymer of poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) and 4,4′-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate), and isosorbide as a chain extender. Reversible properties of PU were studied employing Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and rheological measurements. |
