Antifouling paints have been used to prevent attaching of marine organisms which make the ships spend more fuel on plying as increasing weight of ship hulls. As the traditional antifouling paints, self-polishing copolymer(SPC) resins synthesized with tin compounds were used until 2003 years. However these tin-based copolymers caused so many environmental problems that they were forbidden to use as antifouling paints. Therefore, some new resins are required in a field of antifouling paints. In this study, we first synthesized polyurethane(PU) resins as a kind of new antifouling paint matrix by using polyethylene glycol(PEG), 4,4’-diphenylmethane diisocyanate(MDI), and 2,2’-Bis(hydroxyl methyl)-propionic acid(DMPA). And next, we substituted some materials which can be hydrolyzed on carboxylic side chains of the prepolymer. After synthesis, we tested physical self-polishing properties of PU resins by the measurement of reduced thickness in sea water. |
