Preparation of Polyethylenimine(PEI) Coated Silk Sericin Beads as High Perfomance Biosorbents for Removal of Cr (VI) |

In the present study, the bead type biosorbent from sericultural waste of silk sericin was fabricated and modified with Polyethylenimine (PEI). PEI has strong adsorption ability for heavy metals because of its large number of primary and secondary amine groups. The sericin beads were fabricated using dripping method using the LiCl/DMSO solvent system. The sericin beads before and after modification were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of Cr (VI) removal were investigated with various temperature and pH of solution condition. From the results, the Cr (VI) removal capacity of PEI modified sericin beads was 365.38 (mg/g) which was 10 times higher than that of pristine sericin beads (34.56 mg/g). The results herein revealed that the PEI modified sericin beads could be a high potential material for the adsorption and detoxification of toxic materials from aqueous solution |
