Synthesis of biocompatible gold nanorods-embedded polymeric nanoparticles as photothermal agents using nanoprecipitation method |

For synthesis of biocompatible photothermal agents, gold nanorods-embedded polymeric nanoparticles (GPNs) were synthesized using thiolated polycaprolactone and nanoprecipitation method. Uniform gold nanorods (GNRs) with an aspect ratio of 4.0 were synthesized by seed-mediated growth method for sensitive photothermal effect by near-infrared (NIR) light. The hydroxyl group of polycaprolactone diol (PCL diOH) was modified with thiol group by an esterification process using mercaptopropionic acid as phase transfer agents from water to organic phase. Furthermore, pre-existed hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) can be exchanged and/or removed by PCL diSH molecules. The physicochemical properties of PCL diSH-coated GNRs were fully analyzed. GPNs have the maximum absorbance at 755 nm indicating high-efficient surface plasmon resonance effect for photothermal therapy. Moreover, we can evaluate the potential of GPNs for phothothermally modulated drug delivery system. |
