Synthesis and characterization of SBS and the bio-elastomers based on waste vegetable oil |

Abstract: Styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymers (SBS) and a novel bio-elastomer consisting of the SBS and waste vegetable oil(WO) was prepared by living anionic polymerization. SBS was synthesized in either of the two different synthesis pathways: (1) a coupling method wherein diblock precursors were linked by a coupling agent dichlorodimethylsilane, or (2) a sequential method wherein the three blocks were formed sequentially. The effect of synthesis condition including time and temperature on the coupling efficiency of the SBS triblock copolymer was evaluated. The bio-elastomer SBS-WO was polymerized via the sequential method by added WO after the formation of SBS. The micro-structures, molecular weights and molecular weight distributions of SBS and SBS-WO were analyzed by 1HNMR and GPC. And the mechanical properties of the three kinds of polymers were compared. |
