Thin and uniform silver nanowires were synthesized in the presence of ionic liquids, 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride and 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium bromide, as a soft-template salt when using the polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)-assisted polyol method. In the first step, silver nanoparticles with a diameter of 40-50nm were formed through the reduction of AgNO3 in the presence of the ionic liquid template with ethylene glycol. During the growth step, the silver nanoparticles were converted into grown to one-dimensional wires of pentagonal-shaped crystals, with diameters of 25±3nm ranges and lengths up to ~25um. These silver nanowires showed an electrical conductivity of 0.5×105 S/cm , while the sheet resistance of a two-dimensional percolating silver nanowire network exhibited a value of 20Ω/sq. with an optical transmittance of 93% and haze of down to 1% |
