Bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells composed of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and C60 derivatives have been intensively studied and reached the power conversion efficiency as high as 5 %. The performance of BHJ solar cells can be enhanced by controlling the morphology of the active layer, because efficient charge transport depends on the nano-scale morphology of the composite films. To achieve the bicontinuous morphology of P3HT/fullerene with nano-scale, several groups have synthesized donor-acceptor block-like copolymers composed of P3HT and C60, and applied the photovoltaic devices. However, the performances of such diblock copolymers was not satisfactory, because of a substantial amount of insulating moieties required for introducing C60 in the second block. For the purpose to solve this problem, we have synthesized novel C60-end capped P3HTs. Then, we have examined their optical and structural properties and finally applied to photovoltaic device as a new electron donor. |
