The effect of water content on thermal stability in preparation of Sr-hexaaluminate was examined by use of XRD, SEM, BET and XPS. Large water content caused to decrease the surface area of hexaaluminate rapidly. XPS result also showed the enrichment of element when large amounts of water were added. This result implied that the addition of large amounts of water affected the surface properties of hexaaluminate and the instability of unbalanced surface composition which was compared with bulk composition, accelerated the sintering phenomena which resulted in the rapid particle growth and drastic decrease of surface area.
