Low concentration VOCs abatement using dielectric barrier discharge non-thermal plasma |

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), widely used in many area as effective solvents and manufacturing chemicals, have caused to deteriorate indoor air quality of workplaces. Amongst methods of VOCs abatement, non-thermal plasma (NTP) is gaining an arising attention owing to its energy effectiveness and clean process. This paper deals with some harmful VOCs decomposition using an NTP device based on dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). An experimental system was assembled to study the decomposition efficiency in term of VOCs type, inlet concentration, retention time and applied power. It was found that electrical frequency and input oxygen volume should be related to ozone generation as well as VOCs decomposition. Balance of negative and positive ions also affected VOCs removal.
