Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were treated with oxygen plasma at low pressure. The structural properties and surface morphologies of ACFs with plasma treatment were characterized using the Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) method and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The chemical properties of the surfaces of the ACFs were characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was shown that more oxygen groups, such as C-O,C=O,O-C=O were generated using plasma treatment. The structural properties, such as specific surface area and micro-pores were optimized using appropriate plasma treatment conditions, such as 50s-80s at 100W, and 30s at 120-180W. |
