Organic photovoltaics have recently achieved significant progress in terms of efficiency and lifetime and have crossed 10% efficiency mark. New conjugated polymers and small molecule semiconductors have exhibited some promising results. The highest power conversion efficiency is up to around 12%. Recently, German organic photovoltaic developer Heliatek has achieved 12% champion cell efficiency, a record in the industry. We focus on correlations between molecular chemical structures and properties such as absorption, energy levels and photovoltaic performances. This structure-property relationship analysis may guide rational structural design and evaluation of photovoltaic materials such as donor and acceptor. Based on this, we are developing new conjugated polymers and small molecule semiconductors for high efficiency organic photovoltaics. |
