Photocrosslinkable polymers are representative of photosensitive materials. Recently, they have become important in microelectronics applications because of their photochemical properties. Our group has studied several new photocrosslinkable polymers to explore polymers with high photosensitivity or new photochemical functionality. First, maleimide-type polymers with both cinnamoyl group as a photosensitive group and p-nitrophenyl group as a photosensitizable group were synthesized and their photocrosslinking reaction was investigated. The maleimide-type polymers showed high photosensitivity and their photocrosslinking reaction took place via an excimer formation of the cinnamoyl groups. Second, polymers with the moiety of abietic acid, major isomer of rosin, were prepared and their photochemical reaction was examined. The polymers were crosslinked on irradiation with UV light and showed high photosensitivity. Third, side-chain liquid crystalline polymers with styrylpyridine group as a photosensitive group were synthesized and their photochemical properties were investigated. The side-chain liquid crystalline polymers were aligned by irradiation with polarized UV light and the photoalignment was increased by subsequent annealing. In this lecture, these results will be discussed. |
