We report single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)-incorporated polymer hydrogels via click chemistry. SWNT incorporation renders the the hydrogel network conductive, and the electrically conducting hydrogels may find application in implantable biosensors, electrostimulated drug release, and low interfacial impedence layers for neuronal prostheses. SWNTs were dispersed in the solution of functionalized polyvinyl alcohol with propargyl groups (PVA-alk). Carefully optimized condition for azide alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition (click chemistry) enables gelation of the SWNT/PVA-alk solution with various bis-azide linkers, and the resulting hydrogels were characterized. The effect of conductive SWNT in the click hydrogel was examined by electropolymerization on the hydrogel-deposited electrode. |
