Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have recently received much attention because of several advantages such as its low-cost of fabrication and high power conversion efficiency over conventional solar cells and organic bulk heterojunctions. In present study, Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were used to enhance electromagnetic field nearby dyes. Through the spin coating method, AuNPs were coated on the working electrode of DSSC with Co(II) electrolyte. Since I- / I3- ions can typically dissolve gold, stable ions such as Co(II) was adopted as an electrolyte in this study. We found that the photocurrent as well as the power conversion efficiency of DSSCs incorporating gold nanoparticles was enhanced even by the addition of a small amount of gold nanoparticles. In order to understand the mechanism of the addition of gold nanoparticles, DSSC performance was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and incident photon to current efficiency (IPCE). |
