All-Organic Polyaniline / Nafion / Polyaniline(PNP) Tri-layer Composite Actuator |

A cantilever-type ionic polymermetal composite(IPMC) actuators consist of a perfluorinated ionomer membrane and metal electrodes plated on both surfaces. But the typical manufacturing technique(chemical metal reducing processes) of IPMC electrodes require the long fabrication time and high cost of novel metals such as platinum, gold or palladium. In this study, we develop a all-organic composite actuator consisting of the ionic polymer and the high performance PANi prepared in a self-stabilized dispersion polymerization as the alternative electrode instead of the metals. Our actuator was prepared by pressing a stack of Nafion between two layers of thin PANi film with binding agent. The flexible PANi film appears a proper adhesion with the ionic polymer layer after repetitive bending deformation. The observed bending deformation of our actuator was depending on the thickness of PANi layers and applied voltages. |
