Poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic acid) (mPEG-PLA) containing carboxylic group in end of PLA was synthesized and coated on the surface of iron oxide nanoparticles by emulsification-diffusion method. The mPEG-PLA-coated iron oxide nanoparticles were characterized by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction. Percent of iron oxide and the copolymer in mPEG-PLA-coated iron oxide nanoparticles were determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The mPEG-PLA-coated iron oxide nanoparticles showed superparamagnetic behavior and its particle size was in the range of 8-13 nm. Indomethacin as a model drug was loaded in mPEG-PLA-coated iron oxide nanoparticles to investigate drug content, loading efficiency, and release behavior. It exhibited the similar drug release behavior as conventional core-shell type nanoparticles. |
