Much attention has been paid to the DSSC technology, because of the possibility for the production of solar cells in low cost. In order to improve further the efficiency of DSSC, one of the most important factor is the development of a sensitizer. Given their efficacy in the photosynthesis, porphyrin dyes have great potential in this regard. We have designed and synthesized successfully p-phenylene-vinylene type extended π-conjugated dendritic zinc-porphyrin derivatives with a cyano group on the vinylene moiety and a carboxylic acid group using the Knoevenagel reaction between the [G-n]-aldehyde and [5,10,15-tricyanomethylphenyl-20-(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl)porphyrin]zinc as a dye sensitizer. The carboxylic acid group was selected to adsorb well onto TiO2 and the cyano group was introduced to enhance the electron injection. Their chemical structure was characterized by 1H-NMR, UV-visible absorption, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF mass. In this presentation, the synthesis and characterization of novel extended π-conjugated dendritic zinc-porphyrin derivatives will be discussed. |
