Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) powder is a prominent material as a filler for heat dissipating materials due to its high thermal conductivity and electric insulating properties. However, thermal conductivity of BN-epoxy composite has been found to be far below than expected because interfacial and dispersion problems in the composite are unsolved yet. Here we tried several experiments to address the problems. Effects of surface modification on BN using amino- and epoxy-silanes,filler size control, delamination into BN nanosheets, and curing systems of epoxy resin including molding condition have been investigated. The surface modification was characterized by FTIR and Raman scattering. Delamination was confirmed by SEM, TEM and Raman scattering. Thermal conductivity of the composite was analyzed by laser flash method. Summarized results will be presented. |
