Both Scrap tires and waste oils are the wastes with high energy contents. Tire liquefaction offers an opportunity to combine these two wastes and convert them into fuel or chemical feed stock. Tire chips of nominally 1 inch size was used dissolved in hot used motor oil, and the yields of gases, condensates, and tire oil were determined as a function of reaction time and temperature. The product characteristics were also investigated. A rapid conversion was observed at T > 340°C, accompanied by the rapid evolution of gas and condensate. Most tire conversion occurred during heating to 370°C at 5.3°C/min, and a complete conversion was observed within 30 mins at 370°C. The tire oil was stable at 370°C.
