제목 | Biomass torrefaction: a process modeling approach |
초록 | Torrefaction is a thermochemical pretreatment of biomass at temperatures of 200-300°C in an inert atmosphere. The process aims to produce advanced solid fuel having superior fuel properties than untreated biomass such as increased heating value, better grindability, and more hydrophobicity. Research on torrefaction of a wide range of biomass has been very active recently. Although a numbers of studies can be found in the literature, most of them focus on experimental approach, from which generated information is limited. For example, energy and capital requirements for torrefaction are difficult to obtain from experiments, but they are essential for industrialization of the process. Thus modeling studies are required to provide more information and to fulfil the research gap between academia and industry. In this study, a biomass torrefaction process is built using Aspen Plus v8.8 software. The model is capable to provide detailed information about the distribution of all products and the fuel properties of the main solid product after torrefaction at any conditions. Moreover, energy consumption and capital requirement for a torrefaction plant can be estimated from the model. |
