Existing Liquefied Natural Gas Processes are cascade processes or mixed refrigerant (MR) processes. The processes are subdivided into a precooling section in the vapor phase, a condensation section, and a subcooling section in the liquid phase. These processes are based on hydrocarbon refrigerants such as methane, ethane, propane etc. Mixed refrigerant using hydrocarbon has high efficiency in terms of operating cost, but it remains a safety problem because of flammability. However, flammability issue can be solved using inert materials such as CO2, N2O and N2. Among them, N2O is a nonflammable and nontoxic gas. N2O can be used for both the precooling and condensation sections to overcome the safety problem. The aim of this study is to compare the cascade process using nitro oxide with the process using hydrocarbon for safety. |
