With increase of interests on biodegradable polymer blends and their nanocomposites systems, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylenes succinate) (PBS) have been widely investugated, in order to improve poor mechanical and thermal properties of biodegradable polymers. In this work, both PLA/PBS blends and PLA/PBS/MWNT nanocomposites were prepared via melt mixing process using twin screw extruder to enhance their morphology and rheological properties. The ratio of PLA and PBS in blend was fixed as 50:50. To compare blend system with pure polymer system, nanocomposites of PLA/MWNTs, PBS/MWNTs, and PLA/PBS/MWNTs were also prepared with different compositions of MWNTs. In this system, it was found that one phase has better affinity with MWNTs, based on the results from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Moreover, it is expected that MWNTs increase thermal and mechanical properties of PLA/PBS blends. |
