Fabrication of Polyaniline/nano-silica Composites and Their Electrorheology |

In order to investigate electrorheological (ER) properties of polymer/inorganic composite based ER fluids, polyaniline (PANI)/nano-silica composite was synthesized via an in situ chemical oxidative polymerization and adopted as suspended particles for ER fluids. The composite was characterized via scanning electron microscope and FT-IR spectrometer. The PANI/nano-silica composite based ER fluid was found to exhibit better ER performance than PANI based ER fluid via a rotational rheometer. Furthermore a vertical oscillation rheometer was also used to study its ER characteristics. The increment of storage modulus and loss modulus with electric field strength was clearly observed. A better analysis to the ER performances was obtained by investigating dielectric spectra of these two ER fluids. |
