PMMA/silver composite was prepared in supercritical carbon dioxide. First, we synthesized glycidyl methacrylate linked poly (dimethylsiloxane) (GMA-PDMS) stabilizer to enhance the affinity of growing PMMA oligomers with carbon dioxide medium. The PDMS part of GMA-PDMS increases stability of the growing PMMA chains in supercritical carbon dioxide. Second, silver-phthalamic acid complex was made using 2-methylpentanediamine, glycidylneodecanoate, phthalic anhydride and silver nitrate. Finally, with GMA-PDMS reactive stabilizer, the silver-phthalamic acid complex, azobisisobutyronitrile initiator, methyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate, PMMA/Silver composites were successfully synthesized in supercritical carbon dioxide. XRD pattern of the composite was well in agreement with the literature values for silver nanoparticles. |
