The azobenzene molecule-containing materials, in which azobenzene molecules are incorporated into host materials, such as polymer, glass, and dendrimer, have attracted considerable attention for their distinct ability to produce micro/nanopatterned surfaces. The structural shaping ability stems from its peculiar optical behavior, known as directional photofluidization. Under illumination, azo-materials become fluidized at room temperature and directionally flow parallel to the light polarization. We have invented novel structural shaping strategies exploiting directional photofluidization and achieved unique structures such as mushroom shaped pillar and bended pillar. In this talk, the efficacy of the methods and structures are demonstrated and discussed. |
