In the presence of the stabilized polymer, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), PVP-stabilized Pd-M (M = Ag and Ni) and Pt-M (Ru and Ni) alloy colloids were successfully prepared in aqueous solution by gamma-irradiation. The prepared PVP-stabilized Pd-M and Pt-M nanoparticles were characterized by UV, TEM and ELS. The size of Pd-Ag alloy nanoparticles prepared by gamma-irradiation was decreased by increasing the ratios of PVP to Pd-Ag ions in TEM data, while the size of Pd-Ag alloy nanoparticle was increased by increasing the ratios of PVP to Pd-Ag ions in ELS data. The size of Pd-Ag alloy nanoparticles prepared by PVP of Mw = 40,000 and PVP of Mw = 10,000 were similar in TEM data, while the size of the Pd-Ag nanoparticle prepred by PVP of Mw = 40,000 was higher that of Pd-Ag alloy nanoparticles prepared by PVP of Mw = 10,000. The size distribution of the Pd-Ni, Pt-Ru, and Pt-Ni alloy colloids prepared by gamma-irradiation was very broad. |
