Dendritic Poly(ethylene glycol) by Anionic Ring Opening Polymerization |

Anti-fouling materials are important to prevent the absorption of non-specific proteins at the surface of for implanted biomaterials and biosensors. Poly(ethylene glycols)(PEG) is a representative anti-fouling materials. Pegylated protein is an example of application PEG to drug delivery systems. To improve anti-fouling effect of PEG, dendritic poly(ethylene oxide)s were synthesized by iterative divergent methods based on anionic ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. We employed an initiating system composed of carboxylic acid as an initiator and DPMK as electron transfer agents in THF. Allyl bromide was introduced to branching polymeric chain ends for end functionality. All generations are characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, GPC and MALDI-TOF. |
