Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is the most widely used biocompatible polymer due to its excellent viscoelasticity, water solubility, and hydrophilic material. In this study, PVA and PEG hydrogels were prepared by gamma-ray irradiation and an annealing method. The physical and chemical properties of the prepared hydrogels were examined by determining gel fraction, water content, tensile and compressive strength, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that the hydrogels prepared in these processes have the potential for applications in the articular cartilage and meniscus of the knee joint. |
