Improved Mechanical Properties of Nano-silica/Polymethylhydrosiloxane Composite |
초록 |
Well-dispersed inorganic particles into a polymer matrix have been widely investigated to improve the properties of the composites by many researchers. In this study, nano-silica was chosen as the suitable filler for polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) matrix due to not only its amorphous property for the transparency but also its exceptionally low coefficient of thermal expansions (CTE). The silica filled composite has attracted much attention to improve the mechanical properties and to reduce the CTE of composite. The experimental analysis of the nano-silica/PMHS composite was carried out in the pyrolysis process. The process was stabilized by using vinylsiloxane as an additive and Pt as a catalyst. The surfaces of silica powders were modified by silanization, and silanized silica powders were well dispersed in the PMHS matrix by sonification. The particle dispersion was evaluated by the laser particle analyzer and the transmission electron microscopy. The slurry was initially cured, then pyrolysed in a vacuum furnace. As a result, a dense and transparent composite was obtained with minimum shrinkage and improved mechanical properties. This indicates the homogeneous distribution of the PMHS networks within the filler in the PMHS composite with transformation from organic to inorganic complexes. |
