In this study, CuO particles were introduced by electroless plating to improve the removal property of benzene gas, one of the accident preparedness substances. Surface properties and pore characteristics of CuO-doped activated carbon fibers were confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The removal properties of benzene gas were evaluated by gas chromatography (GC). As a result of XPS data, it was confirmed that the copper functional groups on activated carbon fibers surface increased with increasing the plating time. The specific surface area of all samples decreased after the electroless copper plating. The untreated activated carbon fibers, it is completely removed at 100 ppm benzene gas for 5 h, while CuO-doped ACFs has increased by fourfold. it was found that the introduce of the CuO particles improve the benzene removal efficiency. These results can be used that removal technique of accident preparedness substances such as benzene. |
