Densification Process of Carbon/Carbon Composites by Melted Petroleum Pitch Impregnation |

In this work, unidirectional carbon/carbon (C/C) composites with PAN-based carbon fibers as a reinforcement and phenolic and petroleum pitch resins as matrix precursors were densified by melted petroleum pitch impregnation and recarbonization. The effect of densification cycles of melted petroleum pitch impregnation was investigated. The efficiency of the impregnation process of the composites were observed by bulk density, open porosity. And the oxidation behaviors of the composites with densification cycles were investigated at 600-1000℃ in an air environment. The mechanical properties and fracture behaviors of the composites were studied using the three-point short-beam test according to interlaminar shear strength and flexural tests. Relationships between the densification cycles and the brittle behaviors of the composites were also investigated. |
